Minor Protection Terms

1. Overview

Lights of Africa is committed to the safety and well-being of all minors (persons under 18 years of age) who participate in or access the Platform. These terms outline our protective measures and responsibilities. In all matters concerning minors, the best interests of the child shall be a primary consideration.

2. Age Requirements

  • Minimum age for Platform access: 13 years old.
  • Minimum age for contest registration: 16 years old (with guardian consent).
  • Parental/guardian consent: Required for all users and contestants under 18.

3. Guardian Consent Requirements

For contestants under 18, the following is mandatory:

  • Full name and contact details of parent or legal guardian.
  • Guardian phone number for verification.
  • Written parent/guardian consent on the registration form.
  • Guardian co-signature on the consent and agreement section.

4. Content Protections

  • Users under 13 may not create accounts or access restricted Platform features.
  • Minors under 18 may not participate in live streaming, live performance, or other scheduled Platform activities between 8:00 PM and 6:00 AM Ghana time, except where a different arrangement is expressly permitted by applicable law and approved in writing by the Company and the minor's parent or legal guardian.
  • All user-generated comments are subject to moderation.
  • Automated content flagging detects inappropriate language.

5. Data Protections for Minors

  • We collect minimal personal data necessary for competition participation.
  • Guardian contact information is stored alongside the minor's data.
  • Minor's data is accessible only to authorized administrators.
  • Guardians may request access to, correction of, or deletion of a minor's personal data, subject to applicable law, identity verification, and necessary retention obligations.

6. Performance and Broadcast

  • Minors performing in the competition will have on-site welfare officers present.
  • Performance hours comply with local labor and child protection regulations.
  • Image and footage usage requires explicit guardian consent.
